HSA PLan Members

Active Employees
Active employees who are Medicare-eligible may continue to participate in the HSA Plan. However, to continue to make and receive contributions to a health savings account, Medicare coverage must be deferred. If Medicare A and B are not deferred, personal payroll and MCHCP contributions will end. Existing HSA funds may still be used for qualified medical expenses*.

*A complete list of qualified expenses can be found on the IRS website. HSA funds may also be used toward the qualified medical expenses of the subscriber's spouse and eligible dependents (as defined by the IRS).

Retirees
Employees enrolled in the HSA Plan who are Medicare-eligible on their retirement date can no longer participate in the HSA Plan. Medicare-eligible retirees will be automatically enrolled in the UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Group Medicare Advantage plan for medical coverage and Express Scripts Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) for prescription drug coverage. If the retiree covers non-Medicare dependents, the dependents may continue to be enrolled in the HSA Plan. The Medicare-eligible subscriber's annual deductible and out-of-pocket maximum accumulations will not transfer to the Medicare Advantage plan when retirement happens within the same plan year. The deductible and out-of-pocket maximum accumulations will remain for the non-Medicare dependents on the policy. Existing HSA funds may still be used for qualified medical expenses.*

PPO Plan Members

Active Employees
If a member is still actively employed with MCHCP medical coverage, their PPO enrollment will not change when they turn 65. If the member enrolls for Medicare coverage, it will be secondary to the MCHCP medical plan.

Retirees
If a member is retired with MCHCP medical coverage, their medical and prescription plan enrollment will change when they turn 65. The Medicare-eligible member will automatically be enrolled in the UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Group Medicare Advantage plan for medical coverage and Express Scripts Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) for prescription drug coverage. Retired members must enroll in Medicare Parts A and B to be transferred to the Medicare Advantage Plan through MCHCP.

TRICARE Supplement Members

Active Employees
Active employees who become Medicare-eligible, or whose spouse becomes Medicare-eligible, can no longer participate in the TRICARE Supplement. Active members (and covered dependents, if applicable) will be automatically enrolled in the default plan, the PPO 1250 Plan. If the member wishes to stay in the PPO 1250 Plan, no further action is required. Members wanting to change to another medical plan or to cancel MCHCP coverage will need to complete the Enroll/Change/Cancel Form within 31 days.
